How Fingerprint Scanner Can Detect Drugs in Sweat

Are you surprised by the tremendous growth of technology very often?? Here comes another…Now a simple fingerprint scanner can detect drugs in sweat.  Read on to know more.

Origin:

This scanner was originally developed at UEA.  It was tested on students for legal drugs.  Then it was used to detect nicotine for matching the data with smokers.

Unfortunately, further, development could not be done as feeding drug for the sample individuals is banned under the law of the nation.  Later the research was taken up at King’s research institute for further findings.

How does the device work?

This scanner is very useful for rehabilitation purposes.  It is used in most leading rehab centers like OntarioDrugRehabs.

Let us see how this scanner works.

The device reads fingerprint with the help of special cartridges.  These are then processed further for chemical testing.  The device is capable of generating high-resolution images.  Hence this makes measuring the output of sweat pores possible.

There are chances that one might have traces of drugs in hand due to touching a drug addicted person.  But the good news is that these scanners ignore such traces.

The scanner has a minute mechanism to even trace substances with a molecular weight as low as 100 to 600.

The scanner’s use is restricted not only for rehabilitation purposes.  It can be used for criminal investigation in police cases of drug abuse.  It is very effective when used in schools.  The scanner can produce accurate results even from samples collected from dead persons.  In the normal methods of drug tests, they use saliva, urine or hair.  But collecting a fingerprint is easier.

This scanner can produce up to 92-95% accurate results.  The accuracy level depends on the type of drug consumed and the quantity.  In future, this scanner can be used in airports too.  No wonder that in many nations drug addiction can be eliminated using this scanner.
